Henkels & McCoy
is called upon by the Boy Scouts of America to work on 1957’s Jamboree in
Valley Forge, Pa.
This is a reprise role for Henkels & McCoy, having been a major contractor
for the 1950 event attended by then President of the United States Harry
S. Truman and also by D-Day hero (and current US President), General
Dwight D. Eisenhower.Another family and youth-oriented and unique project
is the Green Lane Recreation Area in Green Lane, Pennsylvania, on an 800-acre property situated on the Perkiomen Creek and owned by Philadelphia Suburban Water Company. Henkels & McCoy crews raze existing
buildings, clear the land and build roads in preparation for a dam and
large lake, The firm sells Philadelphia Suburban on making it a recreation
area. In addition,
the firm constructs concession stands and purchases rental boats. When
completed, the Recreation Area will include camping, fishing, and picnic
areas. A subsidiary company is formed to equip and operate the recreation
area. The park will officially open in 1959.
