Henkels & McCoy wins the contract to grade and plant at the 1926 Sesqui-centennial International Exposition held in Philadelphia to commemorate the 150th anniversary of US Independence. Only ten million of an expected 50 million visitors attend, due in part to extraordinarily rainy weather.

The enormous, 70 feet high sheet-metal Liberty Bell-shaped gateway was covered with 25,000 100 watt electric lights, which illuminated the fairground at night as autos and pedestrians passed beneath.
