1/13/03POLK WORKS STAFF HONORED BY HENKELS & McCOYBARTOW, FL (January 7, 2003) - Polk Works staff members Nancy Thompson and Stephanie Campbell were honored for their time and contributions to “Achieving Service Provider Excellence” at the Henkels & McCoy staff training program held in Lake Buena Vista, Florida on January 2-3, 2003. Ron Goss, Henkels & McCoy Southeast Region Director, presented the awards. Henkels & McCoy is a service provider to the Polk County Workforce Development Board, and provides academic and occupational skills training to out-of-school youth as part of the Polk Works Young Leaders program. They have been successful in reaching this population of 16, 17 and 18 year olds, and helping the teens obtain their GEDs and gain occupational skills. Nancy Thompson (Polk Works Executive Director) and Stephanie Campbell (Youth Programs Officer for Polk Works) participated in a panel discussion with Henkels & McCoy staff from Polk County focusing on how service providers help organizations meet their goals, including how the Board’s performance is measured by the state and what Polk Works wants from service providers. Henkels & McCoy’s TechBridge program helps the Polk County Workforce Development Board meet their goal of “sustaining a quality workforce” by diminishing the barriers to employment faced by young people with no high school diploma and a lack of workplace skills. They also assist these future workers in gaining skills that will provide them with a “living wage”. Henkels & McCoy’s TechBridge program has openings in Bartow and Haines City.
