| 10/21/02 TechBridge Program Trains Teens for Work Haines City, Florida and Bartow, Florida - Henkels & McCoy Training Services with funding from PolkWorks, the local Workforce Development Board in Polk County, has opened two training sites in Haines City, Florida and Bartow, Florida for eligible 16-18 year old youths. Titled TechBridge, the program is designed to raise academic skills, as well as teaching job readiness and technical computer skills. The program includes having the students assemble a functional desktop computer, teaching applicable study skills with tutoring and simulated workplace learning environments. By using basic skills software that offers pre- and post-assessments, lessons are individualized for a self-paced educational environment and are combined with professional educators to empower each student with discipline to reach their potential. The specific approaches and curriculum Henkels & McCoy employs works through each of the SCANS competencies and is supportive of school district subject content. The program currently has 43 students with a capacity for a total of 75 students combined for both training sites. Teens who have dropped out of school or employers interested in working with these teens are encouraged to call.
