Hurricane Iniki
GTE Hawaiian Tel invited
Henkels & McCoy to Hawaii to rebuild their OSP cable plant
on the island of Kauai following Hurricane Iniki. Henkels &
McCoy discovered the island was without electricity, over 90%
of all utility poles were toppled and 95% of telephone service
was not operable. Henkels & McCoy air transported and mobilized
150 people in three days and completed the entire restoration
in 22 months.
Hurricane Andrew
Henkels & McCoy rallied to help restore utility services
to Florida and Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew.
Henkels & McCoy was enlisted by Florida Power & Light
and Southern Bell Telephone Company after the hurricane had left
southern Florida without a trace of phone or power lines. Henkels
& McCoy sent nine telephone crews and 100 workers in one
day to restore telephone poles by hand and repair power lines
and streetlights.
New England Ice Storm of 1998
When the Northeast was devastated by the infamous Ice Storm of
1998, utilities turned to Henkels & McCoy and we responded
promptly and in volume. Henkels & McCoy utilized crews from
as far away as Detroit and St. Louis and provided 250 linemen
to assist Central Maine Power, Public Service of New Hampshire,
Niagara Mohawk Power, and New York State Electric & Gas.
Henkels & McCoy's presence was the largest of any contractor
and greatly assisted these utilities in promptly restoring service
to their customers.
