Henkels & McCoy: Engineering / GPS Data / Field Inventory
| GPS
Data / Field Inventory |
GPS (Global
Positioning System) is a worldwide positioning system formed
from a constellation of 24 satellites and their ground stations.
GPS uses these satellites to pinpoint locations with positional
accuracy to a matter of meters, and in some cases, centimeters.
Historically, hand drawn maps were often
based on sketches completed by engineers or installation crews.
They portrayed the components of the network but their positioning
was less accurate. The on-map relationships of key components
such as manholes and utility poles were approximate.
GPS technology allows utility companies
to accurately locate and map their facilities and assets in the
field. Henkels & McCoy has done GPS/Field Inventory projects
for organizations in both the public and private sectors, tracking
assets specific to their needs.

Benefits
True positional accuracy
Determine spans and distances
without a trip to the field. Provide a solid foundation for
your facility records base or maps.
Streamline data acquisition
Pre-defined data dictionary makes for efficient, fast data
acquisition.
Joint pole inventory
Know who is "attached" to your poles and if there is
space to be leased for increased revenue.
